Against fate

"Oh, thank God I don't have a headache this morning" he thought when he woke up in the morning in his apartment that was all painted white, "This place definitely has it's advantages" he admitted thankfully before taking one of his never-depleting cigarettes and walking to his balcony to have a smoke.
He lived on the 16th floor of a Russian-style multi-apartment block that was painted white just like his apartment and every other multi-apartment block in the place where started to live long time ago. But what made the buildings white was not the physical paint but the illusions that he chose for himself. He didn't like houses, he liked high-rise buildings and porches, that was a big part of his sub-urban soul. His life couldn't be described as ideal but he could capture and squeeze out the best of the good times he had. He loved his city that he grew up in and his love for high buildings was not to be taken away from him by anyone that's why he chose to live in one of them instead of living in a big house with a beautiful garden at the back yard, it wasn't his thing.

He could see the whole world from the 16th floor that he lived on. He had a lot of neighbors in that building, they were all the friends he made through his entire life and all of them lived in the same building as him, it was comfortable for him that way. In the evenings, him and all his numerous friends were either drinking or smoking marijuana or spending their time being on pills and had long drug-inspired conversations about their future and the never-ending "what if" questions. By the way, the "higher council" that was and is in charge of the place did not allow any of these things in the past but because the time moved on, it was getting harder for people to understand all the spiritual values and the concepts of being happy by having their spiritual clearance and universal connection with everything around them, simply understanding stuff did not keep people happy. The Higher Council understood people and allowed to have intoxicating items in the place so the place wouldn't be the most boring place in the universe. He was young when he got here...so he stayed young.

When he finished his cigarette, he flicked it and watched it flying through the bottomless chasm. He walked through his automatic doors into his enormously over-sized and ridiculously modernized siting room, everything in the room was white. He had a 500 inch monitor that also served him as a TV-set but he didn't like watching TV, a DVD collection that was sorted in the numerical order that show casted the number of years of his life with the feature of watching the DVDs from the different angles, some brand new console with some games that he got recently, big clocks that didn't work for some reason, white-leather sofas and chairs, a coffee table made of glass with an abstract set of things on it that really had no use whatsoever if he thought about it and it was the most suspicious item in the room because one-forth of his intelligence was aware that it was just an illusion but the other three quarters were too ignorant and lazy to have a proper thought about it. And of course, a computer with an instant Internet that he used to read the news about the old land, write blogs, participate in discussions and download new music but no under any circumstances was he allowed to promise and organise meetings nor make anybody fall in love with him.

He inserted disk numbered 19 and laid on the couch. This time he didn't really want to watch the whole DVD that he watched numerous times, instead he wanted to watch the part that he only watched 2 times. He skipped to the last 30 seconds of his life: him...her....the car...breakes...death.

As he was watching that part, he was reminiscing how it happened: he was squeezing the steering wheel in his hands and understanding that the brakes stopped working. They were moving towards an upcoming train on high speed and because the speed was so high he couldn't control the vehicle at all and 5 seconds before they crashed he gave up his hope and just wished to die...with her so at least they could die on the same day and be together forever...up there. On the moment of intersecting with the train, the car was hit from the driver's side and it flew 15 meters away from where they were hit. The car then was lying flipped on its back and was on fire but the girl got out of it and pulled him out of the car by unclicking the safe belts and breaking the cracked side window with her already bloody elbow. Somehow she eventually pulled him out and carried him into the safe, away from the car. They both felt on the grass and they heard an explosion on the background. While catching her breath, she was throwing out pieces and fragments of her words out: "We made it...we're alive!". But she heard nothing in reply. She was nervously lying to herself and calming herself down in her mind then she turned her head to him and screamed seeing a horrible scene: he was lying in a pool of blood, a huge piece of glass was sticking out of his chest and his eyes were looking into the eternity. He was observing that scene from up above, being already elevated to 40 meters up from the earth and only God knew what was going on in his mind at that time. The DVD stopped and he was left in thoughtful silence and then - depression.

So he went to the Higher Council to ask them if he could talk to her one more time if it's possible. As he was walking he didn't know what he relied his hope on and almost didn't know what to hope for at all, he was just walking and hoping.
-The Eldest, I know you know my story. I still love Victoria, I want to see her again and talk to her and I want to know how she is...
-You see my boy, it's been long 15 years since your arrival here...Why didn't you take any actions before? Why today? Plus - she's married with another man...
-I...I'm begging you all here, give me one chance to talk to her, let me come to her in her dream for at least 1 minute...
-What are you hoping for? Let me tell you one secret: when her time comes, she won't be here...she has changed and you have no right to remind her about you...you're dead, why would you want to put more scars on her heart? Do you want her to kill herself? That would be pretty strange (laughing and looking at the rest) if I get fired from here...
-Please, I won't tell her anything, I just wanna be with her for one minute...
-Even when you were dying, we tolerated the fact that you wished her to die as well, in other words, you're self-centered man and you didn't care about her. But you loved her more than she loved you, you knew that and it couldn't stop you from loving her, that's admirable...But now she has a brand new life, do you really want to bring up the nightmares from the past back to her? On top of that, how can we be sure you're not going to tell her anything she shouldn't know? I won't allow that...
-I swear I won't tell her anything, I just want to sit down with her in silence...I love her.
(after the discussion)
-Ok, we grand you with your request! Come to this building at exactly 5 minutes to 7 in the morning, by that time she should be waking up and don't tell her anything she shouldn't know!
-Thank you, Higher Council!

As he was waiting for 5 minutes to 7, he was sitting at the bridge and observing sunrise in the center of the place where he lived. He felt warmness on his skin and then all over his body, he felt unusually nice. He flicked his cigarette into the river and it extinguished itself in the warm water. He stood up and started to walk to the Higher Council.

As he arrived, he was greeted by the 2 Guardians: "This way, sir". He was taken into a big room where everyone was in hurry, that sense of "lateness" was in the air. There was not much talking, they just got straight down to what they were here for. The main angel raised his right hand and sent our guy to trance. His soul was sent to earth and it flew down at a very high speed, closer and closer to the destination point. At the last 3 seconds of his flight, he flew down through 15 floors and as he was approaching the 1st floor, he dissolved in her subconscious...

He woke up from the heavy rays of sunlight that were hitting his eyes. He stood up and noticed a big forest full of sunlight and magic: "So, this is her dream..." He looked around and then started to look for Victoria because the time was running out and the sky was already dissolving..."There she is, playing with the animals, how cute..." He started to walk towards her but she couldn't see him as she was feeding a squirrel, finally he was right near her: "Hello...", she raised her head in confusion (because even she couldn't expect such an event to happen in her own dream) and covered her mouth with her both hands so that she wouldn't loose her mind from screaming too loud from the excitement. In the next second they both engaged in a strong hug and she cried on his shoulder. He wiped her tears away and they spoke with their foreheads against each other (whispering):
-I miss you so much...
-I'm thinking about you all the time, it's so boring without you up there...
-Up where?
-I can't tell you...
-I understand...-
-How you've been?
-Not good, I always wanted you back...
-That's just the way things are, it's the way our destinies are...Listen, I heard you're not going to make your way to heaven, why is this so?
-I can't tell you, there's no forgiveness for me...
-Ask for forgiveness so we can be together and I'll be waiting for you whatever it takes...
-Even if so...I'm married with someone else, you see the ring? Even that, I will get divorced and ask for forgiveness all for you and me...
Loud vibrating noises emerged from the sky, it was her alarm clock: "My time here is up, goodbye!" - "No, no, not the damned alarm clock, not now!!!"
Her dream then collapsed into the darkness which then was opened into the real world. HE was already back with the Wise Ones:

-What have you done? I told you not to tell her anything she shouldn't know? You're selfish! You only care about yourself and you ignore the orders and laws that were made my the higher powers, us, the the supreme forces, the right hand of the universal order! It is forbidden for a mortal human to interfere with the order and change other human's destinies, this place isn't built for everyone, do you understand that?
-I'm sorry, I'm only 19, these things are too much to handle for my young mind...
-Ok......ok, look...a punishment for you and her...I'm going to make her forget her dream, that way it would be better for everyone...Now get out of here!
-May I ask a question?
-What is it?
-Why did I die?
-It was decided from "up above"
-Understood.

A couple of month after, the guy returned to his normal life in heaven but he endlessly suffered from the obsessing thoughts of him being here, living and going out of his mind because of love...without love...without her...for the endless eternity.
