So anyway, back on the album, it's called Third because it literally is their third commercial release (with no commercial sound) and it's a masterpiece...
1. Silence reminds me of something that you'd hear
from an espionage movie or a 60s bar, this old-skool
drum sample adds funkiness and relevance to the track,
well sampled

"And if I should fall, would you hold me...Would you...Pass me by?", lyrically (in their genre) they're unmatchable...
3. Nylon Smile is an unquestionable and absolute soundtrack to a human emotion called "obsession", the lyrics on that one describe confused feelings towards something that she left unnamed so that other people can relate to that, genius.
4. The Rip puts you to sleep if you're tired. Nice, soft drums mixed with trippy electro sample and Beth Gibbon's gorgeous vocals create a perfect mixture to blow you away!
5. Plastic sounds like you're in a dream, it is interrupted a few times with the brakes of anger then kicks back into the nice, cushy and warm sound. The end of the track could be used in a movie, it could be used for a scene of an apocalypse with a meteor rain, it is

6. We Carry On is just an incredible record to listen to, constant bass in the background keeps the track floating in your mind, don't know how they do it but it just is like that. Lyrics describe the precious price of life and time, again, the instruments play a major role to show the emotion. Towards the end of the track you'll be stunned by one of the best sequences of guitar riffs you'll hear in music today. Unforgettable.
7. Deep Water starts off like a traditional country tune but the creepiness and unexpected tempo Beth's singing it in, makes it a really original record with no beat or bass applied to it, it's really short, only a minute and a half but oh, it's so brilliant...Simplicity is what makes this track a special one, when I first heard it I thought she was singing about herself dumping a body in a river, cause the lyrics kind of actually suggest and refer to that. It's amazing the way it's done cause I never expected them to make something like this. Fantastic!

9. Small is one of them kind of tracks that I turn up the sound to shake my head like mad, yes, the track is out of this world and for some reason, the end part of it reminds me of the movie From Dawn Till Dusk because

10. Magic Doors is about being confused about your own identity and the creeping instruments on that made would make your skin crawl. Noticable bass and stand out drums create that unique scary athmosphere of what this track is about. Fading out sound at the end leaves a good impression and form up new thoughts about what's said on the track. Wicked!
11. Threads - one genious track, at some parts of it, your thoughts would be screaming for protection and after they'd feel safe, chilling to a nice sound and as the loudness builds up, you can barely notice the change since it's done to fit the transmissions with the instruments swap so that the track flows like one composition. The sounds towards the end of the track and litterally, the album, sound like distorted dog barking put along crazy drums and emotional vocal of Beth Gibbons and the whole mixture of so many things combined, would make you want to join the madness...
So there we have it, soundrack to the 21st century, geniously-put, well-combined, brilliantly-orchestrated, well-brought out, the album that's been in works for 10 years is here and I absolutely love it!!! People who say it's weird and strange should shoot themselves with the double-barreled shotguns right in their face because you dumb fucks are too narrow-minded to dig it! Third is not just about brilliant vocal of Beth Gibbons, but it's also about good music, interesting music, I wish there was more music like that, music that's feeling cracks in the music industry for people who seek something different, Portishead manage that well, great job, guys!
My rating: 11/10
